KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s four-phase National Recovery Plan (NRP) is not time-specific but based on the collective success in beating the Covid-19 spread, lifting pressure on the health system capacity as well as increasing people’s protection through inoculation.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the country had looked to other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore which had similarly drawn-out recovery plans amid the pandemic.

“We had studied, detailed and taken the best practices from these countries for our own NRP to become an important reference and foundation of the country’s recovery process,” he said in his Prime Ministerial statement at the special meeting of the 3rd session of the 14th Parliament today.

The NRP, he said, was based on five main focuses which included the balance of life and livelihood within forward-looking plans, using the whole of nation approach to ensure its success, as well as monitoring and ensuring the plan’s performance and strategic communication effectiveness.

“To put it simply, the NRP is a recovery plan that focuses on strategies to emerge from the Covid-19 threat safely and systematically.

“The phases that have been outlined are aimed to ease the burden on public health system capacity, the reopening of the economic sector and allowing social activities within six months until year-end.

“NRP is not static but dynamic, comprehensive and can be improved according to the needs and developing situation,” he said.

The NRP also sees the government taking on more holistic strategies which include the Covid-19 Immunisation programme as well as the big scale and speedier test, trace and isolate measures, added Muhyiddin.

It is based on five main objectives which, among others, are to protect the public health sector by managing the virus spread, reduce hospital and death rates; ensuring a sustainable health system conduct quick vaccination as well the reopening of economic and social activities in stages under strict rules.-NST
