Kuala Lumpur, 4 Jan 2021 (The Capital Post)- Parti Socialist Malaysia (PSM), Central Committee Sharan Raj has raised his dissatisfaction about the undisclosed compensation amount by the Perikatan National (PN) government on the cancelled HSR project.
The dissatisfaction was referred to a Facebook post by Mustapa Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for economic affairs, explaining that the compensation amount from Malaysian government to Singapore government cannot be revealed because of the bilateral agreement and both countries are bound by a secrecy clause.
The undisclosed amount of compensation is seen as unacceptable and a betrayal to democracy for both Malaysians and Singaporean, said by the PSM central committee member.
According to Sharan Raj, public infrastructure such HSR does not fall within the purview of defence and/or national security and it is needless to keep it as a secret.
“Both the governments are entrusted to manage public resources and have an indisputable obligation to remain transparent to the people”, added by him.
He also stated that the element of secrecy maintained by the ruling government raises the doubts for back-door deals, over bloated compensation and/or corruption which further widens trust deficits on the ruling parties.
The state secretary of PSM Melaka also pointed out that PN should not push Malaysia back into policy dictatorship and urge the government to disclose publicly all the related information, studies and compensation regarding the HSR project.
