THE Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) have appealed for archery, shooting and rhythmic gymnastics to be part of next year’s Sea Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Yesterday, the Southeast Asia Games Federation (SEAGF) confirmed 39 sports and one demonstration sport for the biennial Games on May 5-16.

OCM secretary-general Datuk Nazifuddin Najib was pleased to see the host nation doing their best to support the interest of all the Southeast Asian countries by including many events.

“We are happy to see Cambodia doing a lot of sports to support the interests of other countries.

“We are still appealing for archery, rhythmic gymnastics and shooting to be included next year,” he said.

At this year’s Hanoi edition, 526 events from 40 sports were contested.

On when the final list of sports will be confirmed, Nazifuddin said: “SEAGF have so far approved 39 sports and one demonstration sport.

“Archery, shooting, rhythmic gymnastics, kurash and chess are still under consideration.

“There will be a Sea Games meeting in November, and we hope to conclude it by then.”

In Hanoi, the Malaysian contingent finished sixth with 39 gold, 45 silver and 90 gold medals.-TIMESPORTS
