Number of flood evacuees rises in Perak, Selangor

PETALING JAYA: The number of flood evacuees in Perak and Selangor has increased, while the number affected by flooding in Johor and Kelantan remains unchanged.

There was, however, a drop in the number of evacuees in Melaka this morning.

In Perak, 524 people from 153 families were still housed at eight temporary relief centres in five districts as at 8am.

The state disaster management committee secretariat said this was an increase from 447 evacuees reported last night, according to Bernama.

Manjung and Perak Tengah districts recorded an increase in the number of evacuees, the secretariat said.

In Selangor, the social welfare department’s InfoBencana website showed the number of evacuees increased this morning to 196 from 55 families, compared with 184 from 51 families yesterday. They are being housed at five relief centres in the state.

In Johor, the number of evacuees in Kluang, Segamat, Pontian and Tangkak remained unchanged with 345 people from 85 families as at 8am.

The district disaster management committee said 53 evacuees were staying at relief centres in Segamat, 32 in Kluang and 15 in Pontian. There were 245 evacuees at the two centres in Tangkak.

In Kelantan, the number of flood victims remained unchanged, at 2,036 individuals from 686 families.

In Melaka, the number of evacuees dropped to 53, involving 15 families, compared with 59 from 16 families last night.

In Penang, another relief centre was opened at 4pm yesterday to house 42 victims following heavy rain.-FMT
