Number of flood evacuees continues to fall in Johor

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat has seen a slight drop from 973 people at 4am to 967 as of 8am on Thursday (March 23).

The State Disaster Management Committee said that the 967 people from 269 families are currently seeking shelter at four active temporary relief centres in the district.

“The relief centre at SK Seri Medan has the most evacuees, with 249 people from 70 families, followed by SK Taman Seri Kota in Yong Peng with 230 people from 67 families.

“Other relief centres that remain open are at Sekolah Agama Seri Bertam, Dewan Orang Ramai Yong Peng, SK Seri Aman, SJKC Hua Min, PDK Sri Medan and Sekolah Agama Seri Comel,” it said in a statement here.

It added that there are five roads that are still non-accessible to all vehicles where three are in Kluang and one each at Kulai and Muar.

“In Kluang, Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat and Jalan GSA Chamek are closed for all vehicles while Jalan Kota Tinggi – Kluang is only open to light vehicles.

“Jalan Ulu Tebrau – Sungai Tiram in Kulai and Jalan Kangkar Senanga in Muar are also closed to all vehicles,” it said. – The Star
