No electricity cuts for domestic accounts with arrears below six months

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed not to impose any electricity supply cuts against domestic accounts with arrears of not more than six months from Jan 1 to March 31.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah in a statement said domestic accounts will also be offered a six-month Easy Payment Plan from Jan 1 to June 30, to help manage their electricity bills.

“To continue assisting the people during this Movement Control Order period, the government with Tenaga Nasional Berhad will ensure that no electricity supply cuts are implemented in residences with arrears not exceeding six months until June 30.

“The Easy Payment Plan will also be extended until Dec 31 to assist domestic account to manage their electricity bill payments.

“This initiative was introduced to help reduce the cost of living burden on the public following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country,” he said.

Shamsul said the initiative will benefit around 6.96 million domestic accounts in Peninsular Malaysia.

“It is hoped that this initiative will help preserve the well-being of the public in challenging economic conditions during the pandemic,” it read.-NST
