SEREMBAN: The Nov 4 flash floods that hit several low-lying areas here was not caused by the release of excess water from dams, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He also said that the flash floods were not due to human error or negligence.

“When we were hit, there were also flash floods in other areas like in Negri Sembilan like Gemencheh and Senawang, as well as in Hulu Langat, Selangor,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Nov 18) after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

Aminuddin said those who doubted this could always check with the Meteorological Department and Drainage and Irrigation Department.

“The actual reason is that we received a lot of rain on that particular day. There is just no other reason for this,” he said.

Since the incident which damaged some 1,000 households and business premises, there has been talk on social media that the flash floods happened after excess water was released from dams,

On a separate matter, Aminuddin advised property owners to cut trees or prune branches which pose a danger to the public to prevent untoward incidents.

He added that this is important as local councils do not have the power to do so.

He also advised those living in residential areas not to plant any type of tree they wished as this could also pose a danger to others.

“You need to get approval form the local council before you plant any tree even if it is a

mango or coconut tree. We do not want a situation where the tree grows too big and poses a risk to

others,” he said adding that such trees could also damage roads, culverts and drainage. – THE STAR
