KUALA LUMPUR: The RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial was vacated for the day on Thursday (May 11) as former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is still being treated for diarrhoea and dehydration.

Court of Appeal judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah – who is presiding at the High Court – postponed the trial after hearing from Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s clinical medicine specialist Dr Mohd Fadhli Zil Ikram Karim about Najib’s condition.

To a question by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib, Dr Mohd Fadhli said he had examined Najib while doing his usual clinical rounds at 7.20am.

“When I examined Najib, he complained that he is still having episodes of loose stool which we examined and it was indeed loose in nature. So by this definition he is still having active diarrhoea,” he said.

Dr Mohd Fadhli also said Najib’s blood pressure was stable.

“However, due to diarrhoea, he is showing signs of a high risk of dehydration. We have to keep him in the ward for intravenous saline infusion to rehydrate him and monitor his vital signs,” he added.

Dr Mohd Fadhli also said that after consulting with his superior, they concluded that Najib was unfit to attend his 1MDB trial at the High Court because his condition required monitoring with one day medical leave provided.

The trial is scheduled to continue on June 21.

Najib, 70, is facing four charges of abusing his position to obtain gratification totalling RM2.28 bil in 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same money. – The Star
