The Socio-Economic Development of the Indian Community Unit, better known as SEDIC was founded by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak under the administration of the Barisan Nasional Government.
SEDIC was committed in helping the Indian community in terms of education, socioeconomic, human capital in driving and improving their quality of life.
After Pakatan Harapan Government won the 14th General Election, SEDIC was re-branded as the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) and YB Senator Waytha Moorty (then) Minister of National Unity and National Integration was tasked to lead the unit.
To smooth MITRA’s administration, YB Senator Waytha Moorty has removed almost all SEDIC / MITRA administrative officers appointed by the Barisan Nasional Government administration and replaced it with new faces who were also staunch supporters of the former Minister. Many of those who have been laid off are qualified officers from various fields who have just lost their jobs.
Following the political change on 1st March 2020, under the administration of YAB Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin, the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia, YB Senator Waytha Moorthy has been excluded from the Cabinet and YB Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, the only MP from the MIC Party has been appointed as the new Minister of Human Resources.
MITRA is expected to be led by YB Datuk Seri Saravanan and to ensure the smooth running of the unit, it is appropriate for all administrative officers appointed or promoted by YB Senator Waytha Moorthy and former Government led by Pakatan Harapan to resign voluntarily before being removed. This enables the new Minister to appoint highly qualified, experienced and capable officers to contribute to the development of the Indian community.
With the restructuring of new officers in the MITRA, Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Malaysia’s solely Indian based political party under the leadership of Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran will be able to continue its efforts in the realisation of the “Malaysian Indian Blueprint” or MIB which was introduced in 2018 . MIB covers economic aspects and jobs, education and youth, identity and inclusion and community and welfare. It is therefore important for MITRA units to have new administrative staff in achieving this aspiration.

I refer to an article, Resign Gracefully or be ready tomorrow be Removed, published on http://www.capitalpost.com.my. The author requested JPM officers to resign over a change of minister, to be more specific MITRA, a unit under the Prime Minister”s Department, which was under the purview of YB Waytha Moorthy till the new government change. I have strong opinion against such suggestions.
The government, as the legislative body, decides and directs what’s best for the country. Upon which the executive implements. The officers take oath to discharge their duty as directed at the interest of the people and country.All that has been planned out for the people has to be implemented and the officers have to be committed without any political agenda in mind . The change of government should not be factor to differ any good services planned and provided for the general public what more it’s for the poor.
As far as records have shown, MITRA and it’s officials have implemented many programs that actually benefit the community. This include the dialysis for the poor, food aid for the needy, special programme for Indian prisoners, education related support programmes, career upskill with job placement and etc. With many programs like this on going, the last thing that should cross a rational person’s mind asking MITRA officers to resign. In fact the new government should encourage more units open up like MITRA .This would improve the support system and bring on more people to uplift the Indian community in our country. We need to look at how the other communities, whether Malay or Chinese operate. They don’t mix politics with services for the community. It’s called maturity…. And we need such direction and leaders.
