MCO extended till 18 Feb and no interstate travel, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA, 2 Feb 2021 (The Capital Post): The movement control order (MCO) has been extended and will be enforced from Feb 5 to Feb 18.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all states except for Sarawak will be placed under MCO.

He said the government has decided to extend it from Feb 5 to Feb 18 (2 weeks) after Health Ministry reported that daily Covid-19 cases in all states remains high and infectivity rates are also high.

“Interstate travel is not allowed to prevent new infections and emergence of clusters due to travelling”, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He added, social activities are also still not allowed for now.

“All decisions made by the National Security Council special meeting are based on data and information submitted by the Health Ministry.

“When we allowed for interstate travel previously, it had contributed to an increase in positive cases.

“In fact, 31 clusters emerged due to interstate travel, ” he said on Tuesday (Feb 2).

He also added that the authorities are busy drafting the standard operating procedure (SOP) for Chinese New Year celebrations will make it known to the public once it is ready.

The current MCO ends on Feb 4 and Sarawak is placed under conditional MCO (CMCO).- The Capital Post
