THE video recording of Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) May 30 full board meeting that ended abruptly due to a large number of councillors staging a walkout has been removed from its YouTube channel.

A total of 19 out of 24 councillors had left the meeting in the middle of the session to show their disapproval over the statement by Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Azhan Md Amir that the councillors were not decision makers during a One Stop Centre (OSC) discussion but were only there to give input on social and political aspects.

The full board meeting was subsequently called off due to the lack of quorum.

MBPJ full board meetings have been broadcast live and shared on its YouTube channel – PJCityCouncil – since 2020.

When contacted, MBPJ councillor Terence Tan said he was shocked by the removal of the video, especially for a city council that won the best local authority award in Malaysia recently.

“Under whose instructions was the video removed?” he asked.

MBPJ emerged tops among 155 local authorities in the country and was awarded the best local government award by the Local Government Development Ministry in March.
