KUALA LUMPUR: The May Day Rally organisers have expressed disappointment over police investigations into what they claimed to be a peaceful gathering.
When met outside Dang Wangi police headquarters on Friday (May 5), E. Parameiswary, who is one of the main organisers of the rally, said she was called to have her statement recorded.
“What is good is that this year the police only called me to have my statement taken and did not call in any of the participants.
“Many of the questions by the Inspector were previously covered during our meeting with the police on April 27,” she said, adding that the rally on May 1 went on without any untoward incidents.
She said the Inspector also told her that the case was being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Her lawyer Y. Kohila questioned the need for the police to ask questions to which they already had the answers.
“Most of what was covered when my client gave her statement had already been discussed when they met the police prior to the rally.
“The rally was held in an orderly manner without any incident or damage to the city,” she said, adding that she felt these questions were a waste of time. – The Star
