PETALING JAYA: The projected exponential surge in Covid-19 cases, which would have seen Malaysia record more than 13,000 cases a day by mid-June, appears to have been averted with lockdown measures, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“We were plateauing and the last three days have shown a downward trend,” he told FMT when commenting on the seven-day average trend of Covid-19 cases.
“But we are not out of the woods yet.”
He reminded the people of the importance of staying at home and adhering to SOPs in flattening the curve.
Noor Hisham said the intervention measures indicate that the exponential surge, as shown in the red zone trajectory of the ministry’s projections, had been averted.
The two-week total lockdown came into effect on June 1 as the government sought to address the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
Under the ministry’s projections, Malaysia should have recorded over 10,000 cases a day by now, and exceed the 13,000 cases-a-day mark by June 14.
In the past three days, fewer than 7,000 Covid-19 cases a day have been recorded. Yesterday, 5,566 cases were recorded, preceded by 5,271 (June 7) and 6,241 (June 6).-FMT
