KUALA LUMPUR: Former Petaling Jaya City striker M. Kogileswaran Raj is set to be the first Malaysian footballer to play in South Korea after agreeing to join K-League 2 club, Chungbuk Cheongju.
The 24-year-old is expected to sign a one-year contract with Chungbuk, who moved up from the amateur K3 league for the 2023 season.
It is learnt that the Kuala Lumpur-born player is undergoing a medical test with Chungbuk.
Kogileswaran, who is also known as Kogi, said it’s a big adventure for him to play in South Korea and he is looking forward to improving his game there.
Kogi was a mainstay of the national Under-17 team in 2014 before joining Pahang in 2016 and won the FA Cup in 2018.
He played for Petaling Jaya City in the Super League from 2020-2022 as well as the national team from 2018 to 2022.-NST
