MELAKA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah performed the Friday prayers at Kampung Hulu Mosque here.

Sultan Abdullah arrived at the mosque at 1pm Friday (July 21).

His Majesty was accompanied by Melaka governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, state assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum and state executive council members Datuk Rais Yasin and Datuk Rahmad Mariman.

The Friday sermon, entitled “Amalan 10 Muharam” (Practices of 10th Muharram) was delivered by Melaka mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil.

Abdul Halim, in his sermon, said this month is called “haram” (forbidden) because it has been ordained by Allah as a sacred month where any form of tyranny is forbidden and such sins committed during Muharram are weighted much heavier than any other time or month.

He said Muslims are encouraged to always reflect and take stock of oneself and to do good deeds such as fasting, especially on 10th Muharam to seek the pleasure of Allah.

The sermon also called on Muslims to continue to be steadfast in doing good and avoid all that are forbidden by the Islamic law.

Sultan Abdullah together with a congregation of about 1,000 later performed the Friday prayers led by Abdul Halim.

After prayers, His Majesty spent time meeting the congregation and presented donations to orphans of Sungai Udang orphanages and the mosque through its chairman Muhamad Ikram Ibrahim. – Bernama
