JOHOR BARU: Johor is hoping for a bigger slice of the Budget 2020 cake, which will be tabled in Parliament on Oct 11.

Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal (pic) said the state is hoping for a higher allocation from Putrajaya under the development budget.

“Next year will be an important year for the state as we would be hosting the Malaysian Games (Sukma) and also Visit Johor Year 2020.

“The cost for us to host the two major events is high and hopefully the Federal Government will help us in giving a better allocation,” he added.

The event is organised by the Association of Islamic Banking, Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and Bank Negara.

He hopes Johor would receive the much needed allocation from the federal as the state was among the highest contributors for Malaysia’s overall gross domestic product (GDP) and income tax collection as well.

“Based on the current figures, Johor has contributed RM136.5bil, which is 9.6% of the GDP.

“In 2018, the state’s GDP rose to 5.6%, which is higher than the national GDP, which is at 4.7%,” he said. -The Star
