JAKARTA: Metro Jaya Jakarta Police Narcotics Department director Donald Parlaungan Simanjuntak has been dishonourably dismissed, local media reported.

The dismissal follows findings of violations of the code of ethics and profession of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) related to an extortion case involving police officers and Malaysian citizens attending the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) concert in Kemayoran, North Jakarta which ended on Dec 15.

“The decision of the session determined the action of ‘dismissal with dishonour’ for the director of the narcotics division and his unit head as well,” said Police Commissioner General M. Choirul Anam on Sunday (Oct 8), as reported by Kompas.

The fate of other police officers involved in the case will be decided in the next session on Thursday (Jan 2).

M. Choirul added that both senior officers who were dismissed have submitted appeals for reconsideration.

The extortion case involving Malaysians at DWP included 18 police officers from the division office, city police, and regional police.

To date, all of them have been detained pending further investigation.

Last Saturday, Indonesian police arrested 18 of their officers for allegedly extorting Malaysians during the three-day DWP concert in Kemayoran, North Jakarta.

The arrests followed several complaints from Malaysians who claimed they were mistreated and extorted throughout the event, which went viral on social media.

The case is now being closely monitored by external bodies such as the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) to ensure transparency and justice in the investigation.
