KUALA SELANGOR: Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has expressed interest in contesting the Bera parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Ismail Sabri is the incumbent Bera member of parliament, who first won the seat in 2004 and four consecutive general elections after.

“I want to contest but let’s wait for the official announcement,” he said after launching the Entrepreneurs and Cooperatives Carnival in Puncak Alam, today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the 14-day campaign period for the GE15 was sufficient and they will adhere to the time given by the Election Commission (EC).

“If it is too long a period, people will complain and campaign workers will be tired.

“Political parties must plan their campaigns to optimise the delivery of their electoral messages within the period,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said the list of GE15 candidates was still being discussed, including the possibility of caretaker Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz being nominated at the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat.

Ismail Sabri added that he was unsure if the official announcement would be made by the central leadership or the respective state liaison committee chairmen, who might present the letters of appointments to candidates.–NST
