PUTRAJAYA: Human Resources Minister M Kula Segaran says he does not know if Malaysia will take in between 100,000 and 150,000 security guards from Pakistan.

He said the matter came under the home ministry’s (KDN) purview.

“The media report (on the security guards) is from Pakistan. This job is related to security, so it comes under KDN,” he said, adding that his ministry only processed applications for employers wanting workers.

“They (home ministry) make the decision,” he said after launching a programme at his ministry.

Former prime minister Najib Razak had shared a report from Pakistani media outlet The Nation that Malaysia will accept 100,000 to 150,000 security guards from the country.

In the report, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Amna Baloch said Malaysia had discussed the matter with Islamabad.

Najib questioned whether the report was accurate as such a deal was not reported by Malaysian media.

Kula also denied claims that there was a lack of job opportunities for Malaysians, saying as many as 700,000 vacancies were available nationwide.

“Not just low-level jobs, there are vacancies for managers, assistant managers, lawyers and accountants,” he said.

He advised job seekers to visit the Jobs Malaysia portal for further information. – FMT
