KUALA LUMPUR: It looks like the planned strike by food delivery riders will still take place after all.
A poster with “Mogok! Rider Grab Se-Malaysia”, loosely translated as “strike by Grab food delivery riders in Malaysia” has been making the rounds on social media, declaring that a protest would begin at 4pm today.
According to the poster, food delivery riders who wish to join the protest would gather at 10 meeting points in the city centre, Putrajaya and other parts of the Klang Valley.
From there, the riders will join a convoy and head to the Grab headquarters in Petaling Jaya. Those who participate in the strike will sound their horn throughout the convoy.
Riders who wish to participate in the strike and convoy were also advised to wear the Grab jacket or any jacket in the colour green, Grab helmet if any as well as equip their motorcycle with the GrabFood delivery bag.
The riders were also advised to adhere and comply with the traffic regulation including avoid running any red lights as well as respecting public safety and order at all times.
The convoy is expected to end with the handing over of a memo and notice of demand at the Grab headquarters.
The strike was planned following allegations of unfair compensation paid to the food delivery riders.
News portal The New Straits Times also spoke to consumers, who said there have been some differences to their online food order experience this morning.
They said that instead of food delivery riders, their food was sent by e-hailing riders.-NST
