PETALING JAYA: Former Sabah governor Sakaran Dandai died early this morning. He was 91.
Sakaran’s third son Nasir confirmed the news of his passing at 6am.
“Yes, it is true our father passed away this morning. The hospital has contacted the family just now,” he said, according to a Berita Harian report.
Nasir said his father’s remains would be taken to the state mosque before burial at the Heroes Memorial.
Earlier, FMT reported that Sakaran had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Sabah after being infected with Covid-19.
Nasir had said Sakaran was admitted to Gleneagles Hospital on Aug 18.
Sakaran, who is the uncle of former chief minister and Warisan president Shafie Apdal, served briefly as Sabah chief minister from March to December 1994 and was the state governor from 1995 to 2002.-FMT
