EMCO in several areas in Sabah, Terengganu, Pahang, and Perak

PETALING JAYA: More areas in Sabah, Terengganu, Pahang, and Perak will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from May 29 to June 11 following a spike in Covid-19 cases there, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In Sabah, two localities will be placed under EMCO, namely Kampung Baru Durok in Keningau and Kampung Mook in Papar.

Mukim Kuala Berang in Hulu Terengganu will be placed under EMCO after 37 positive cases were recorded from 213 people screened.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Mukim Sitiawan in Manjung, Perak will affect three localities, namely Sitiawan, Manjung and Ayer Tawar.

In Pahang, three localities in the Bera district will be placed under EMCO. Ismail said this was in view of the Covid-19 situation there, with the locality recording 72 positive cases recently.

On yesterday’s arrests, he said 724 people were arrested, where 712 were issued compounds and 12 remanded.

The offences include failing to observe physical distancing (227), failing to register personal details prior to entering premises (148), failing to wear face masks (130), crossing state or district lines without permission (63), and others (88).

The authorities also detained 15 undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng.-FMT
