PETALING JAYA: With just two weeks to go to the special five-day Parliament sitting from July 26, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon says they are still waiting for a notice from the Cabinet before they can inform MPs of the agenda.

He said 28 days’ notice was usually given to MPs but under Standing Order 11(3) of the Dewan Rakyat, they would need special notice from the Cabinet since this was a special sitting.

“Since the sitting will be about government affairs, we will need to wait for notice in writing to know the (agenda),” he told FMT.

He said once MPs receive the approval, they will then organise two committee meetings to discuss the logistics of hybrid sittings, as some will attend the sitting in person while others will register online.

He said Parliament had put forward a proposal on holding hybrid sittings to de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan to discuss with the National Security Council (MKN) and the health ministry.

“We can only hold the two committee meetings once we get the notice,” he added.

Earlier, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang in a statement said MPs had yet to receive any notice on the Parliamentary sitting.

On July 5, the Prime Minister’s office announced a five-day sitting on July 26 to brief MPs on the National Recovery Plan.

The announcement came after repeated calls from the Palace for Parliament to reconvene to discuss measures on the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.-FMT
