Covid-19 Watch: 4,503 new cases, ten deaths reported, says Health Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 4,503 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (July 27), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,664,213 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 4,497 of Wednesday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions, while there were 6 imported infections.

The portal also reported that there were 3,847 recoveries on Wednesday, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 to 4,581,365 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 46,906 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 96.6%, or 45,318 individuals, observing home quarantine and 24 patients, or 0.1%, being attended to at quarantine and treatment centres throughout the country.

A total of 1,505 Covid-19 patients, or 3.2% of Wednesday’s active infections, have been hospitalised, with 59 cases being treated at intensive care units (ICU).

Of the patients in ICU, 29 are unventilated whole 30 require ventilator support.

Malaysia’s overall ICU utilisation rate stood at 62.0%, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 15.8% of the ICU utilisation rate.

According to the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository, Malaysia recorded 10 deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, including four classified as “brought-in-dead” (BID).

This brings the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 35,942 since the pandemic began.

Five of Wednesday’s Covid-19 deaths were reported in Perak and another three in Selangor while Penang and Pahang recorded one fatality each.-The Star
