Covid-19 cases recorded below 20,000 for second day in a row

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases continued to drop for the second day in a row, with Malaysia registering 17,672 new infections in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday the coronavirus cases dipped below the 20,000 mark which the country exceeded for five consecutive days, when 19,807 infections were recorded.

The fresh cases as of noon today see the cumulative Covid-19 cases in the country stand at 1,572,765 since the pandemic struck the nation last year.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 4,316, the first time the Klang Valley’s figure fell below the 5,000 mark in over a month.

Selangor was followed by Sabah with 2,474 cases and Kedah with 1,602 infections.

Other states with four-digit cases are Sarawak (1,538), Penang (1,451), Johor (1,367) and Kelantan (1,176).

States with three-digit cases are Perak (952), Kuala Lumpur (891), Pahang (506), Negri Sembilan (478), Terengganu (470), and Melaka (363).

Perlis and Putrajaya recorded 57 and 24 cases respectively, while Labuan recorded seven new infections.-NST
