Council lights up colours of Palestinian flag, in show of solidarity

SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has joined the Malaysian community and the world in expressing their solidarity with the Palestinians who are being oppressed by the Zionist regime.

The colours of the Palestinian flag, featuring red, white, green and black lamps, have been lit up at Wisma MBSA in Section 14 here from 8pm to midnight since Monday.

MBSA corporate and public relations division head Shahrin Ahmad said this is to raise awareness among Malaysians, especially the people in Shah Alam, on issues affecting the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, MyAqsa Defenders (MAD) has raised RM17.8 million in public donations to be channelled as humanitarian aid for the Palestinians.

MAD, established as a coalition of young people from various NGOs, celebrities and humanitarian icons, said the funds will be channelled in stages to the Malaysia Clinic-Al-Aqsa project, the legal services in Sheikh Jarrah, and the Poor Family Kafalah in Baitul Maqdis and Gaza Emergency Relief project.

Among the partners of the coalition Cinta Gaza Malaysia, Global Peace Mission Malaysia, Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (MAPIM), Malaysia for Syria, Al Azhar Care, Cinta Syria Malaysia, Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) and Cakna Palestin.-FMT
