IPOH: Cigarettes have been included as among the few items that will be duty-free, as Pangkor becomes a duty-free zone on Jan 1.
Perak Tourism Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing (pic) said the state has come to an agreement to include it, along with other items like chocolates.
He, however, said alcohol is still not allowed to be included on the list.
“But the state will study it if there are requests that could benefit the industry players and locals.
“Maybe at some specific locations it can, ” he told reporters after attending the launching of the Jelajah Persona Selangor roadshow here by Selangor Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari on Thursday (Dec 19).
“But if there are no demands, alcohol will not be listed.
“We are also not rejecting the possibility in the future that we will include it as one of the (duty-free) items, ” he added.
Pangkor was announced as duty-free during the tabling of the Budget 2019 in Parliament. -The Star
