KUALA LUMPUR: The five-storey commercial building where a roof beam collapsed at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park is closed to the public until further notice.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the building was inspected by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Institute of Public Works (Ikram) as at 10am on Wednesday (Aug 16).
“The initial inspection found that the fourth floor of this building is quite unsafe.
“We will allow the owners who are on the first, second and third floors to move important items in stages,” he told reporters at the scene.
ACP Amihizam said the building’s joint management body has been advised to appoint an independent consultant to reassess the safety of the building in order to determine if it was safe to occupy or not.
“We advise the public to stay away from the area as there is still a risk of falling debris.
“The affected area will only be allowed to be cleared once the independent consultant states that the building is safe and can be repaired,” he said, adding that the estimated losses have yet to be determined.
He urged the owners of the 10 vehicles damaged during the incident to lodge reports at the nearest police station.
It was reported that at least 10 cars were crushed when a building beam collapsed at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park here.
Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel rushed to the scene at around 10pm on Tuesday (Aug 15).
They immediately cordoned off the area to allow authorities to inspect the building.
No casualties were reported during the incident.
