KUALA LUMPUR: A Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth wing leader and his wife were today charged with two counts of drug trafficking and producing drugs.

However, no plea was recorded from Adam Asmuni, 35, and Lyiana Roslee, 34, when the charges were read to them at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court.

According to the first and second charges, they allegedly trafficked cannabis weighing 1,580.5g and about 7.87l of a similar drug in liquid form.

The offences were allegedly committed at a house in Jalan Duta Suria, 1 Duta Residency in Ampang at 7.30pm on Jan 20.

For both offences under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment, with whipping of not less than 15 strokes, if convicted.

They were also charged with cultivating nine cannabis plants either on their own or on behalf of another person at the same place and time.

The offence under Section 6B(1)(a) of the Act provides for life imprisonment, with whipping of not less than six strokes, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Suriantiazila Muhamad prosecuted. Counsel Nur Mustanir Md Nor represented Lyiana while Adam was unrepresented.

Magistrate Normaizan Rahim fixed March 17 for mention.

Earlier, Lyiana was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) by a different magistrate’s court before she was charged again with the same offence with her husband.

On Feb 1, Lyiana was charged with the same offence before magistrate Farah Nasihah Anuar.

It was reported that a former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth wing vice chief candidate was detained for possession and distribution of liquid ketamine.

The arrest was made when police found a white package with a shipping logo containing 400ml of substance suspected to be liquid ketamine.

Police later raided a house at Jalan Duta Suria, Ampang, the same day, which led to the discovery of more drugs.

This included nine cannabis plants worth RM4,500, dried leaves believed to be cannabis worth RM3,000, liquid suspected to be ketamine and RM53,100 worth of cannabis.

It is learnt that the suspect produced drugs by mixing marijuana and ketamine before selling it at RM300 per bottle.

The suspect’s 34-year old wife and his Filipina domestic helper were also arrested following the raid. NST
