Aaron-Wooi Yik survive early scare to advance in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh from their Korea Masters victory last week, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik had a close call before advancing to the men’s doubles second round at the Kumamoto Masters in Japan today.

The world No. 6 bounced back after dropping the first game to beat Denmark’s world No. 30 Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard 15-21, 21-17, 21-9 in a 52-minute showdown at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium.

In the second round, Aaron-Wooi Yik will face Taiwan’s world No. 59 Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi Lin.

Earlier, Hsiang Chieh-Chi Lin defeated Malaysian qualifiers Low Hang Yee- Ng Eng Cheong 21-14, 21-19 in their opening match.
