SEREMBAN, Dec 2 — A total of 38 locations in Negeri Sembilan were hit by flash floods for the period between January 2019 to October this year, the State Assembly was told today.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said of the total locations, 18 were in the Jempol district, followed by Seremban (eight), Port Dickson (five), two each in Tampin, Kuala Pilah and Rembau, and one in Jelebu.
He said this in response to a question from Chew Seh Yong (PH-Lobak), who wanted to know the areas affected by flash floods in the state since last year.
Aminuddin said the state government, through the local government authorities, had conducted discussions and studies to identify the cause of the flash floods in the state and several follow-up measures had been taken.
Among the measures taken to overcome the problem is to require developers (related to development and housing) to design and build drainage systems by taking into account the high rainfall distribution in the areas concerned, he added.
He said upgrading of old drainage system was also carried out to facilitate smooth flow of water from areas prone to flash floods. -BERNAMA
