PETALING JAYA: More than 30 new integrated, large-scale vaccination centres (PPVs) will open nationwide before July 19, health minister Dr Adham Baba said today.
Their opening will be coordinated by the Covid-19 immunisation task force (CITF), the health ministry and ProtectHealth, he told a press conference.
Adham said the ministry has set a new target for ProtectHealth, whereby 60% of the total vaccinations under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) will be carried out by private sector PPVs before the end of August.
“The health ministry has also increased the scope of ProtectHealth to also involve NGOs in vaccine distribution,” he said.
ProtectHealth is the private sector coordinator for PICK. It was initially mandated to carry out 30% of vaccination targets under the national immunisation programme.
Currently, the 1,230 PPVs under ProtectHealth account for 46% of the total vaccinations in the country, carrying out 162,822 vaccinations every day.
On the participation of general practitioners (GPs), Adham said more than 1,000 of them have been registered for PICK so far, including 318 from Selangor.
Kuala Lumpur has 154 PPVs managed by GPs, followed by Johor (138), Sarawak (81), Perak (66), Kedah (43), Penang (43), Negeri Sembilan (39), Pahang (38), Melaka (37), Kelantan (25), Sabah (24), Terengganu (17), Perlis (six), Putrajaya (four) and Labuan (one).- FMT
