PUTRAJAYA: Individuals who will be receiving the Covid-19 vaccine shot need to go through five stations at a Vaccine Dispensing Centre, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
The Health Minister said the whole process would take about 15 to 30 minutes including monitoring for side effects after the jab.
“The first stop is to screen for symptoms and body temperature, the second station is for registration, the third for consultation and immunisation agreement, the fourth is for the actual vaccine jab and the fifth for observation.
“From the screening of temperature to getting the shot takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Even though the observation period is 15 minutes, we need to provide adequate time for monitoring, ” he said in a press statement after conducting a simulation exercise for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme here yesterday.
Also present was Khairy Jamaluddin, the Coordinating Minister for the programme and also Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.Dr Adham said the Health Ministry was prepared for the first phase of the programme involving 572,588 frontline personnel, registered as at Feb 21.
He said 532 centres have been identified throughout the country for the country’s largest immunisation programme.
“The centres have been categorised from one to eight based on the number of personnel and area of the place with a category one manned by 10 ministry personnel and 10 non-ministry personnel.
In another development, Dr Adham said pregnant women and nursing mothers, would not be given the shot based on a resolution of the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee.“So far, the committee maintains that such a group should not be given the vaccination, ” he said.
Recently, Universiti Putra Malaysia microbiology lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Niazlin Mohd Taib urged expecting women and nursing mothers to skip the jab to avoid possible side effects.- The Star
