KOTA BARU: Kelantan police confiscated 101kg of syabu worth RM3.6 million in an operation in Rantau Panjang, last night.

State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said the syabu was seized in an operation in Kampung Lubok Gong. However, no arrests were made.

He said a police team from Bukit Aman went to the area at about 10.30pm after receiving information about drug activities taking place.

“They rushed to the scene after receiving tip-offs on illegal movement in the area.

“No one was there when the team arrived. But upon checking the surrounding area, they found 24 packages near a dump site containing the syabu,” he told a press conference here today.

Shafien said initial investigation showed that the drugs, which were smuggled from Thailand, were for distribution to other states, including Kuala Lumpur.

He said police believe the drugs belong to a syndicate which has been active for some time.

“We also suspect that this syndicate has a connection with several other drug syndicate groups that are active along the Kelantan/Thai border, as the latest seizure was made about 100 metres from a case discovered on Monday.

“Police have already identified the syndicates and are tracking down their members,” he said.

Shafien added that last night’s seizure was the third by the police this month.

“The latest seizure brings the total worth of syabu seized by two border agencies to more than RM22 million,” he added.- NST
