243 arrested for flouting movement restrictions

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 243 people yesterday for flouting SOPs under the movement restriction order, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

Ismail said 217 of them were issued compound fines while another 26 were remanded.

In a statement, he said most of the offences were due to people not wearing face masks.

Other offences included failure to observe physical distancing, failure to provide materials for contact tracing registration, and travelling interstate or inter-district without a permit.

A total of 2,873 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 17,071 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

Ismail also said police caught 32 illegal immigrants and two smugglers, as well as detained 10 vehicles yesterday under Ops Benteng.

He added that 75,212 people had arrived through KLIA between July 24 and Nov 25 from various countries.

A total of 405 people tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 64,096 have been allowed to return home. – FMT
