1,339 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 38% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 1,339 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 786 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 553 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 227, followed by Johor (155) and Perak (148).

A total of 1,346 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 38% of their total capacity of 886 beds.

ICU beds in three regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kuala Lumpur (70%), Johor (62%) and Selangor (60%).

A total of 209 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 24% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (89%), Terengganu (75%), Kuala Lumpur (74%), Putrajaya (72%), Melaka (65%), Perak (61%), Perlis (57%) and Sarawak (56%). Negeri Sembilan reported (50% capacity.

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 66% while 58% of ICUs were in use.

Four new clusters were also reported yesterday.
