BUKIT MERTAJAM: 11 people, including five women, were detained during a drug-fuelled party at a homestay in Kompleks BM City here past midnight today.
All the men, aged between 18 and 25, tested positive for ketamine while the urine test for all the women, aged between 19 and 20, came back negative for drugs.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said, acting on a tip-off, a team of police had gone to the address at about 12.01am today.
He said, when they reached the address, they carried out a 10-minute surveillance.
“A police inspector then knocked on the door, which was opened from the inside by one of the men. He then proceeded to detain the man after identifying himself as a senior police officer and showing his authority card.
“The team then went into the unit and detained another five men and five women, all of whom were in the living room.
“Checks led the team to the discovery of an assortment of drugs on a table.
“Among them were a transparent plastic packet filled with 14 ecstasy pills (seven each in blue and green colour), believed to contain methamphetamine (weighing about 4.70gm) and three transparent packets filled with what is believed to be ketamine (weighing about 4.70gm),” he said today.
Shafee said police then seized the drugs and conducted physical checks on the men and women. Nothing was found on them.
“All of them were taken to the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters for further action,” he added.
The case is probed under Sections 12(3) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
The case is also probed under Regulation 17 of the Disease Prevention Measure and Control Act 2021.-NST
