11 foreign workers arrested near Kulai for rioting

KULAI: Eleven Myanmar workers were arrested here for alleged involvement in a fight that left four other foreign workers injured.

Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said the fight took place on Wednesday at 8pm in the Taman Teknologi Senai industrial area here involving a group of foreign workers.

“Investigations showed that the suspects used wooden sticks and metal rods as weapons.

“The fight left four workers from Pakistan and India seriously injured. They were taken to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment,” said in a statement.

He said based on information, a team from the Kulai police Criminal Investigation Department conducted several raids here and arrested 11 Myanmar nationals aged between 20 and 30 for their alleged involvement in the case.

“The suspects have been remanded for four days until April 4 to help in the investigation. The remand orders were issued by Magistrate Nur Azrin Moati,” said Tok.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“Further investigations are being carried out to find the cause of the fight and to locate other suspects who might be involved,” said Tok.-NST
