Seven held for childcare centre break-ins

Estimate Reading Time: < 1 minute

GEORGE TOWN: Seven men were arrested for breaking into childcare centres in the northeast and southwest districts, here, since March this year.

Police raided two locations in Sungai Nibong yesterday evening and detained members of the gang, aged between 20 and 28.

One of the suspects tried to evade capture by attempting to climb down from the fifth floor to the fourth floor through the window of an apartment in an empty unit, but failed.

The Fire and Rescue Department had to be called in to help bring him down.

With the help of firefighters, the suspect was brought down and handed over to the cops.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed the arrests.

“Since March, they were involved in three cases in the northeast district and four cases in the southwest district.

“Total losses are estimated at about RM16,000,” he said today.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 for robbery.
