KOTA KINABALU: A school teacher has been arrested for using force to obstruct a police inspector from arresting a youth in connection with a case where the windscreens of cars were smashed and a CD player was stolen in Sabah’s east-coast Lahad Datu.

Lahad Datu police chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said the 54-year-old teacher tried to stop the 33-year-old inspector by pushing and slapping him twice on the abdomen at the Lahad Datu football field at about 5pm on Tuesday (Feb 4).
He said the teacher, who was the uncle of the 23-year-old suspect wanted by the police, attacked the officer without provocation.
Both the teacher and his nephew were arrested.
He said man’s nephew was being investigated over a Jan 18 case, where two youths threatened two motorists by smashing the windscreens of their cars and later stole one of the car’s CD player in front of a restaurant in Bandar Sri Perdana.
He said a 20-year-old victim in the case claimed that as he was reversing his car from the restaurant two unknown men slammed their helmets on his car.

The victim immediately stopped his Toyota Vios and got out to find out what had happened. The two men claimed he had hit their motorcycle.
An argument ensued, and one of the suspects hit the front windscreen of the car with his helmet.
At the same time, the windscreen of a Mvyi belonging to the victim’s friend was also smashed by the suspects. The victim’s friend, who was having a late night supper with him, had come to his aide when they attacked his car.
The victim told his friend to get into his car and the head straight to the police station to report the incident as the Myvi’s windscreen was badly damaged.
The suspects also stole the car’s CD player.
He said the first local suspect, a 22-year-old, was arrested Jan 22 near a workers’ quarters at Ladang Felcra Danum, and this led police to the arrest of the second suspect. -FMT
