Present to welcome the arrival of the Boeing 737 aircraft, which carried 111 passengers to Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, were Kedah Tourism, Culture, and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin, Alor Star Mayor Mohd Yusri Md Daud, and Kedah Tourism general manager Azlizam Jaafar Sidik.

The Kuala Lumpur–Alor Star route will operate daily, with seven flights per week on Batik Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft, offering both economy and business class cabins.

Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the Kuala Lumpur–Alor Star route is not only a major step in strengthening connectivity but also opens new opportunities for growth in Malaysia’s northern states.

“This route will serve as a catalyst for both tourism and business, unlocking new avenues for investment and collaboration in key industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and trade, while making it easier for travellers to experience the untapped potential and vibrant culture of this region,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Salleh lauded Batik Air’s move, describing it as a key moment and an example of strategic collaboration to boost the state’s tourism sector.

“We deeply appreciate Batik Air’s commitment to connecting Kedah to wider markets.

“Such partnerships are crucial as we prepare for major tourism initiatives, including Visit Kedah Year 2025,” he told reporters after greeting the passengers and crew.

“We encourage continued efforts to enhance Kedah’s accessibility, as better connectivity will drive tourism growth and economic opportunities for the state,” he said.

Salleh added that the state government welcomed more airline companies to have direct flights to Kedah and encouraged existing airlines flying to the state to increase their flight frequency.

“We are ready to captivate the travellers throughout Visit Kedah 2025 themed Experience Kedah with various unique tourism products from our diverse culture, heritage, nature and sumptuous delicacies,” he said.
