SIK: A man endured nearly a week of pain when a gold ring on his finger became stuck.
He sought assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department on Aug 17 to have the ring removed.
Sik Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Fire Chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said the 40-year-old man, who resides in Kampung Melaka, Mukim Sok, had suffered from the ordeal for almost a week.
He said the situation led to the victim’s finger becoming infected.
“Because he could no longer stand the pain anymore, he went to the fire station by himself to seek help.
“Upon seeing the condition of the finger, which was swollen and almost severed, the operations chief on duty, Matzuki Mat Noh, told the man to the Sik Hospital emergency unit first for a preliminary examination.
“A team of six firemen went to the hospital to assist the medical employees with specialised equipment to cut off the ring,” he said when contacted on Saturday.
Zulkhairi said it took the firefighters nearly 30 minutes to remove the ring.
The man was then handed over to the medical employees for further treatment, he said.
