Thousands of people from four different protesting groups reportedly gathered outside the Parliament building on Tuesday morning.

The clash was triggered by a group of protesters’ attempt to set up a tent on the roadway. The police wanted to dissuade them from committing unlawful acts, but the protesters began to brawl.

“Despite all the warning of the law enforcement officers, the organisers and participants of the rally did not comply with the police’s requirements. Instead, they fought, used batons and threw stones,” said the statement.

The situation is now under control and the streets around the parliament have been cleared, local authorities said.- BERNAMA
