MELAKA: A depressed Pakistani man attempted to jump from the second-storey of a building in Cheng here, allegedly due to his “dingy” hostel condition.
However, his attempt was foiled by Melaka Fire and Rescue Department personnel, who persuaded him to change his mind.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Soon Wee Kiang said the department received a distress call at 12.30pm on Friday (Dec 13).
They rushed to the scene to find the 26-year-old man standing precariously at the edge of the balcony.
He said for 40 minutes, six personnel persuaded the victim not to jump, and the man finally relented.
Soon said the man shared his sorrows to the firemen about issues at his workplace, and also the condition of his hostel here.
He added the man was later lured to safety and the case was handed over to the police.
It is learnt that the man had arrived here for employment about a month ago. -The Star
