MACHANG: Return the property or money stolen from the people, or be prepared to be investigated, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has told a political leader.
Issuing the ultimatum at the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani event and unity pact machinery launch event on Sunday (July 23), the Pakatan Harapan chief said he would instruct authorities to investigate the political leader, if the person fails to return the said assets.
“I have stressed three times, including tonight, that you must return the money and property you have stolen from the people,” he said.
“If not, I will ask the authorities to investigate, including by going to the person’s house, office and checking the accounts,” he said without naming the leader.
“What was stolen, will be taken back,” he said
He said wrongdoings could not be justified.
He added that he has instructed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate ministers if they were involved in any questionable shares or contracts dealings.
“I am not the one investigating, it is the MACC, the Inland Revenue Board, police, and Bank Negara. Not me. I am not the one making arrests, it is the police.
“I am not the one prosecuting, it is the Attorney General,” he said.
This, he said, was to save the country and to curb misappropriation of funds meant to help the people.
He said it was important to put an end to the culture of leaders stealing wealth.
