It said it would continue to uphold the educational vision and philosophy of its late advisor, Datuk Kum Boo, who previously stated that the group should be independent and apolitical in their support of their alma mater for the benefit of its students.

“The goals and objectives of the Federation Alumni are to support our alma mater to be a university of educational excellence and to achieve full university status and also to foster fraternity and networking among alumni.

“When Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) first started, options for higher education were very limited. It offered not just education but also hope to a better future for many of us (the alumni) who were from the lower- and middle-income groups during those difficult times.

“Let us give TAR UC our salute and continuous support,” said the group.

On Wednesday (Dec 4), Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had announced that RM40mil would be allocated to a trust fund managed by TARCian Alumni Association (TAA) for TAR UC.

Guan Eng had initially announced an allocation of at least RM30mil annually for the trust fund for the benefit of TAR UC and its students.

However, for 2019, Guan Eng said it would allocate RM40mil. -The Star
