Young Tigers fall in the semis of Junior Asia Cup

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s run in the men’s Junior Asia Cup was halted in the semi-finals by Pakistan, who secured a 6-2 win in Salalah, Oman, on Wednesday (May 31).

The match was tied 2-2 at the end of the third quarter but Pakistan turned on the power by scoring four goals in the final quarter.

Pakistan will play India, who thrashed South Korea 9-1 in the other final four clash, in a late final on Thursday (June 1).

Defender T. Perabu gave Malaysia a 1-0 lead after scoring through a penalty corner in the 21st minute but Pakistan hit back with two quick goals from Mohammad Khan (42nd) and Abdul Rehman (44th) respectively.

Danish Aiman Khairil Anuar equalised with a field goal in the 45th minute but goals from Pakistan’s Abdul Shahid (47th), Abdul Rehman (48th and 51st) and Ahmad Arbaz (58th) ended the Young Tigers’ campaign.

Young Tigers are scheduled to meet South Korea in the third placing play-off late Thursday night.
