KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has clear economic policies that will continue to attract major foreign investors to the country, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“If there is confusion on our policies, how can our economic growth surpass Indonesia, Vietnam and China? If there is confusion on policies, will it be impossible for investments to come?

“Just within a month of our trip to China, Geely (Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd) has come to Malaysia and asked to expedite the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) project in Tanjung Malim,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) during Question Time in Parliament on Monday (May 22).

Hamzah had asked Anwar to state the country’s economic plan following complaints of confusion from the business and corporate sector on different types of tenders for government projects.

“It means that there are clear policies that they know of. Those complaints are normal, if Larut gives a specific view, I will accept. If there is any constructive criticism, I can consider it and even make necessary adjustments.

“This is because we want to generate better economic growth in the country,” he said.

On government tenders, Anwar said that there was no confusion on the re-tendering of flood mitigations projects.

“I believe there is no confusion on this too. When we stop the practice of direct tenders of flood mitigation projects, there must also be measures to expedite the projects.

“This includes the pre-qualification stages and select tenders, this is something that has been mentioned in Parliament.

“The problem now is YB Larut must come to Parliament to listen to my (previous) answers. So there is no confusion,” he said.

Anwar had previously announced that the government will re-tender at least six flood mitigation projects starting in June this year.
