RM227,914 worth of drugs seized in Penang following raid and arrest of local man

GEORGE TOWN: Police have busted a local drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of a 52-year-old man and the seizure of RM227,914 worth of drugs on Monday (April 3).

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department had launched an operation in Ayer Itam and before arresting the local man.

“Seized from him were 100 aluminium foil packets containing Erimin 5 pills weighing 280g and worth RM8,000.

“It then led to two more raids in Jelutong where police seized various drugs, including 87 packets of methamphetamine weighing about 4.5kg worth Rm148,566, as well as 1,400 Ecstasy pills weighing 659g worth RM30,800, and 800 WY pills worth RM8,800.

“Other drugs seized included 100 packets of ketamine worth RM13,125 and 29 packets of MDMA powder worth RM5,800.

“There were also packets of heroin and cigarettes containing marijuana,” he told a press conference at the state contingent headquarters on Thursday (April 6).

Shuhaily added that two cars worth RM37,500 and RM2,010 in cash were also seized.

“Investigations found that the syndicate has been active since early this year in the local market.

“The total amount of drugs seized is enough for 31,060 consumptions.

“Urine tests on the suspect found him positive for methamphetamine and checks found he has six criminal and drug offences on his record,” he said.

The total value of drugs and property seized amounted to RM267,424, he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – The Star
