Man, 28, nabbed for mocking, threatening cop

KULAI: A 28-year-old man has been arrested for mocking and threatening a policeman for trying to issue him a summons at Taman Senai Jaya here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the incident occurred at 9.20pm on Tuesday (Sept 20) when the suspect was riding his motorcycle against traffic and not wearing a helmet at Jalan Senai Jaya.

“One of our officers was on patrol when he stumbled upon the suspect. The suspect then sped off to his house.

“Our officer then demanded that the suspect hand over his identification card in order to issue a summons, but was met with offensive words.

“The suspect even threatened the officer’s safety,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 21).

The suspect was then arrested and brought to Kulai district police headquarters for questioning.

A background check found he has no criminal record.

He is currently on remand for three days until Friday (Sept 23).

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duty, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison or a RM10,000 fine, or both, if found guilty.The Star
